Piece of the week: Indian Chief Skull pendant (and ring)

We've got several other skull pieces in our jewelry arsenal, but the best things come in twos. So this week's piece of the week, the Indian Chief Skull, comes in a unisex necklace and guy's ring, as seen on RZA.

Our own chief, Brandon Schoolhouse, was inspired by American Indian culture and these pieces pay homage to his heritage. American Indians greatly valued creative and cultural expression, as seen through their art and jewelry, which is something fashion aficionados can definitely relate to. They also used jewelry as currency to trade between other tribes and people. Since both pieces are available in gold, silver, and gunmetal, you and your style tribe can trade off as often as you like.

Piece of the Week: Medusa ring

Each Piece of the Week feature usually provides a mini history lesson, and this week is no different!

What do Han Cholo, feminists, Nihilists, and Freud have in common? They all have their own interpretations of the mythical character, Medusa. While the other three have translated their takes of Medusa in a textbook, Han Cholo lets you wear our interpretation on your lovely hand. The two-tone Medusa ring is one of our Fall collection's new pieces that was previously only available in our Sterling collection. Medusa was a beautiful woman-turned-monster from popular Greek myths. Residing in the underworld, she had hair of snakes, scaly skin, and every mortal who looked into her eyes would turn to stone. According to myth, she was eventually killed by Perseus with the help of his sidekick, Bubo the owl, who also inspired a previous piece of the week.

While Medusa was typically known to make men turn away, this ring will probably have the opposite effect to those who dare to wear it. Similar to Medusa, however, you're guaranteed to have looks that kill.

Pieces of the Week: Labyrinth ring + Love Trap necklace

Our 2 pieces of the week were once only available in our sterling series, but will be transferred to our Shadow series for our Fall collection and will be available in gold, silver, gunmetal, and rose gold!

The Labyrinth ring was inspired by one of the polyhedral dice in the role playing game, "Dungeons and Dragons." Fashion adventurers will love the size of this ring, whether they're battling monsters or out with their girls. It's definitely a standout piece and will be a fixture of everyone's fantasy.

Labyrinths are made to trap anyone who enter, and love is no different. That's why we are proud to introduce the Love Trap necklace for guys and girls, to bring out everyone's dangerous side. There isn't any significant inspiration behind the Love Trap, according to Han Cholo co-founder, Brandon Schoolhouse. He "just wanted to make a bear trap." Clearly, love is harder to escape than bears.

Piece of the Week: Woodsy ring

Owls are a symbol of wisdom, and there have been a number of omniscient owls in pop culture:

One was the constant companion of Winnie the Pooh, while one gave doe-eyed Bambi a crash course in love, and another told us how many licks it took to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop. Rather than imparting wise words of wisdom, this owl is simply associated with buffalo wings and orange booty shorts. Finally, Bubo, Perseus' magical, golden sidekick from "Clash of the Titans", even inspired one of our previous pieces of the week.

This week, we present the Woodsy ring, inspired by a PSA from the 70's and 80's featuring Woodsy, a chipper owl telling us to "Give a hoot- don't pollute!" None of us wants to pollute our wardrobe with junk, and since this piece comes in rhodium (as pictured below), sterling silver (on the model), and vermeil, featuring amethyst eyes, it's anything but junk. And we know what some of you may be thinking...an anti-pollution PSA inspiring a brand based in one of the country's most polluted cities? Despite that slight irony, rock this ring and you'll stick to this feathered friend's message: whether in the city or in the woods...you'll help keep America looking good.

Piece of the week: Facet Skull Ring

Han Cholo’s piece of the week is the facet skull ring, which was released Spring 2010. It was inspired by the ancient Aztecs, who are notorious because of their defeat against Cortes and his Spanish conquistadors. As one of the first civilizations, however, they were also known for their ornate artifacts. With garnet stones for eyes, this facet skull can be your wardrobe’s own little artifact. Though it’s two-tone and available in sterling silver and vermeil, you don’t have to rule an empire in order to rock one. It can be worn whether you’re out carousing or conquering, without any sacrifice to style.

No need to excavate this ring, though. You can find it on Han Cholo.com!

Piece of the Week: Lioness/Lazarus rings

New for Han Cholo’s Spring 2010 collection are the Lioness and Lazarus rings for her and him, respectively. As seen on our post about our Bloc 28 line with Disney, we’re no strangers to taking a childhood icon and adding a unique twist. Available in gold, silver, and gunmetal, these rings pay homage to the Japanese cartoon, “Voltron,” a childhood favorite of co-founder, Brandon Schoolhouse. So whether you travel to a universe near or far, rock these rings and you’ll be the defender of all that is stylish.

Available online at Karmaloop and Revolve Clothing
